AdSense to HSBC Hong Kong
If the AdSense payments profile is Hong Kong, Google can pay by electronic funds transfer in Hong Kong dollars into an HSBC account in the same name. That is a local EFT, not a SWIFT wire and not PayPal.
What has to match
- Payments country = Hong Kong.
- Bank country = Hong Kong. HSBC Hong Kong is fine; HSBC Mainland is not this rail.
- Account holder name = the name on the AdSense payments profile (use the bank’s English spelling).
Google’s own help pages list Hong Kong as supporting EFT (HKD, test deposit required) and wire. They do not let you attach a Hong Kong bank to a Mainland China payments profile. That mismatch is a common failed HSBC SWIFT code attempt, not a broken bank.

USD-reporting accounts use a US$100 payout threshold instead. Use the numbers inside your own payments tab; they are the source of truth.
EFT setup, in order
- In AdSense: Payments → Payments info → Manage payment methods → Add, choose EFT.
- Enter HSBC Hong Kong details (bank code 004, branch, account number as the bank shows them). Do not paste a Mainland CNAPS number.
- Wait two to five working days for a test deposit under HK$1, often labelled along the lines of AFS RE GOOGLE / Google AdSense Payment.
- Verify the exact amount in AdSense. Until that tick, there is no live payout.
Why HSBC rather than a virtual bank
Traditional banks fit the EFT form. Some virtual-bank account numbers are longer than the field Google shows (a 12-digit ZA Bank number vs a 9-digit box has already blocked people). HSBC’s numbering is the boring, compatible choice.
What this is not
AdSense EFT is not a client invoice. For those, use the transfer fee calculator on the Get paid setting. Do not route AdSense through PayPal Hyperwallet unless your country list actually offers it — Hong Kong’s AdSense matrix is EFT and wire, not Hyperwallet.
